I have taken great lengths to make sure of this information as I believe it is of great importance to all of us who belong to the Lord our God. The ones of us that truly love him will find this out. At first it may seem very confusing but if you study this you will see it crystal clear when you are done and will not have any doubt about his name or his power.
The first thing that all of you should be aware of is that the letter "J" did not exist until the middle ages in any language in the world. This is history and can be found in most if not all encyclopedias.
It is not a Hebrew letter and it was not in history either. It became an English letter in the middle ages. The letter "J" was one of the last English letters added to our alphabet.
The letter "J" in "The 21st century Webster's Family Encyclopedia revised edition 5th volume dated 1999 on page 138 looking up just plain letter "J" says that it was the 10th letter in the English alphabet. The letter "J" is one of the last letters added to our alphabet and variant of the letter "I" . The "J" has the sound of "Y" in Latin,German, and Scandinavian languages and in Spanish has the sound of "H".
The Greek New Testament spelled the Lord's name as "IESOUS". I could list a reference but this is not in question since every single copy of the Greek spells it this way.
In the Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible written by James Strong copyright 1890, the 1986 copy the first edition in the back in the Greek dictionary on page 48 the Strong's number 2424 which is the number for the word IESOUS it says that it means Jesus which comes from Jehoshua and also says the Lords name is pronounced ee-ay-sooce from Hebrew word and number 3091 found in the Strongs
3091 In the Hebrew dictionary of the Strongs on page 63 in back it says this yeh-ho-shoo-ah meaning Jehovah-saved also Jehoshua also Strongs 3442
In Hebrew dictionary the 3442 means Yeshuwa or yay-shoo-ah meaning he will save.
In Crudens Complete Concordance by Alexander Cruden, copyright 1930, reprint volume 1977, 19th printing, page 796 in the proper names section in OT and NT under Jesus it says "A Greek form of a Hebrew name Y'Hoshua which is a compound of Yah meaning Lord and the shua meaning freed. or Y'shua means salvation.
In Thayers Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament written by Joseph H. Thayer in this reprint of the fourth edition, in the second printing October 1997, on page 300, under Strongs number 2424 it says that Jesus is a later form of a Hebrew name Yeshua or Yehoshua either way the pronunciation is yay-shoo-uh.
In the Vines Expository Dictionary of New testament Words by W. E. Vine written around 1952 on page 604 it says that Jesus is a Form of a Greek spelling of "IESOUS" that comes from a Hebrew name Joshua meaning salvation.
If Mary named him Yeshua and Peter called him Yeshua and in acts 2:38 they told us to baptize in Yeshua name, then how can we change this and think we are right?
I have heard some people say that the King James says Jesus so they will use it as it is correct but they do not know that the original King James Bible did not contain the letter "J". The KJV used a Latin form of IESOUS which was IESUS which was later changed by 1789 or so to Jesus but its correct pronunciation was ee-ay-sooce which was an error developed over time by Greek grammar rules.
In Greek there is no "SH" contraction and they cannot make that sound in Greek. Because of this fact Yeshua had to change to Yesua and since Greek had a rule that said male or masculine names could not end in a vowel Yeshua became Yesous. Later this was spelt in the Latin from in the KJV as the Latin form which was IESUS was translated directly from the Greek translation. This was done not even considering the origin being Hebrew and again in English later after the Normans came through conquering and thought the Y and I sound too feminine they changed many words that started with "Y" or "I" sounding words to J sounds and this completed the Lord's name change.
Honestly David in Hebrew is David in English but Jesus does not translate into Hebrew.
Even the OT written in Hebrew called Joshua the name Yeshua and it also named the Lord in Zechariah chapter 3, verse 6. see below.
Zec 3:6 And the angel of the LORD protested unto Joshua, saying,
Zec 3:7 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; If thou wilt walk in my ways, and if thou wilt keep my charge, then thou shalt also judge my house, and shalt also keep my courts, and I will give thee places to walk among these that stand by.
Zec 3:8 Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou, and thy fellows that sit before thee: for they are men wondered at: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the BRANCH.
Zec 3:9 For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone shall be seven eyes: behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day.
Zec 6:10 Take of them of the captivity, even of Heldai, of Tobijah, and of Jedaiah, which are come from Babylon, and come thou the same day, and go into the house of Josiah the son of Zephaniah;
Zec 6:11 Then take silver and gold, and make crowns, and set them upon the head of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest;
Zec 6:12 And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name is The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD:
Zec 6:13 Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.
